I went to Charles town, West Virginia to go to the Charlestown Horse Races. I had a bet that I needed to make. Also, I am going to put up directions to get there from D.C.
I left Washington, D.C. at about 7:00, getting a bit of a late start, but I usually don't do so well on the first few races, so There was no hurry.

Here is how I drive.
I go onto the Dulles Toll Road, all the way towards the end, then I get on 7 West (don't go on Business 7 near Leesburg) then Rougte 9 East, take a right at the 7 Elevn in Charlestown (Charles Town? I need to sort that out) Then a left at a light, a 'T' junction, then a right into the races.
While I was driving the people in the Jeep Cherokee in front of me kept pouring liquid out of their car. A lot of it! It was making a mist and spraying into my car, and it was starting to worry me. So when I pulled into the races I asked them what they were pouring out. It was vomit. The bleary eyed passenger was carsick. How gross is that?!? So I bought a jug of water and washed the Benz. Last time I drove to the races someone sprayed something yellow on my car in Waterford. What is going on?
I arrived at the races.
Am I being deliberately vague about the races? Why am I talking instead about vomit on my car. Well, I didn't do so well.
My picks from earlier in the week didn't come in. Actually, nothing came in. I cut my losses pretty quick and got out there. In the 7th race, my trifecta was worthless. I was right about Cowboy Magic and Juan de Dios Acosta, Cowboy Magic came in second. I did hedge my trifecta with a win bet on him, should have picked place. If he hadn't been brushed at the start, he might have had a better chance against Polish Music.
I didn't win a single bet yesterday, which is pretty rare for me.
That's ok. I guess that is why they call it gambling.
There were a lot of Sea Biscuit fans at the track. Mostly young women having their male friends explain horse racing to them, but some men, too. Once the movie comes out Charles Town (Charlestown?) will be packed.

I arrived in Atlantic City at about 7.00 p.m...
Initially, I went to the Trump Marina and made about a quick hundred dollars there. It is actually quite nice. The Trump Marina is one of the newer casinos there and is still very clean. At least cleaner and newer than many others.
After I then i wanted to keep moving then got a receipt for parking validation and went to the tropicana? I think and got free parking
I didn't do so well there.
Played alone on the 25 dollar table on the don't come and tried to walk to other casinos but they were far away and it was windy so then I drove to bally's.

And this is where the story begins.
I had a sandwich, I believe it was roast beef on texas toast, and I think I had it at Bally's
I arrived at Bally's about 9 and stayed there till 4 in the morning.

I tend to always grab a corner on the craps table closest to the dealer, and I wound up standing there for 3 hours drinking diet cokes.
Next to me were some business men and one of them rolled for 45 minutes. Then he crapped out and passed the dice to his associate and he rolled for about 30 minutes. Then they left.

I kept coming and going from the table, just to walk around and sit down.

By midnight a woman showed up wearing a "Virginia is for Lovers" T-Shirt.
She was a dirty-ish lady from Virginia and her her dirty-ish husband, or maybe her son was accompanying her.
After every roll she would say "that's good we like that". It didn't matter to her, or she didn't understand, what she was doing.
She would say that even if it was a 7 or a 2,3 or 12 on the come out roll.
She was getting really drunk, but she rolled for a really long time and she kept hitting the hard-ways; and she would say 2-2 or 3-3 and whatever the roll she would say "that's alright that's ok, we like that".
There was an Irish guy at the other end of the table was giving everyone nicknames. He called the woman from Virginia, "Virginia", and me "spiky".
I don't know why.

At this point i had enough money that i was thinking about getting a room at Bally's.
instead, I got coffee
One woman offered to "sell" me her room.
She had lost 3000 in 2 days, but that seemed sketchy.

This is my bet pick for the horses at Charlestown Races, Charles Town, West Virginia for July 18th, 2003.
I'm looking at Race 7. This is a big money race and I decided to bet big money. I am still flush off the pick from a few days ago. I might let it ride.
Here is what I am betting, and, as always, follow my ideas at your own risk. They call it gambling for a reason.
I am boxing the 1-8-9 trifecta for $10, for a bet total of $60.
I'll see how this does.
Hopefully it should come in.
The only problem I see is Juan de dios acosta on Cowboy Magic. I might throw $10 on him to win just to hedge my bet.

Cuando yo estaba en España, fui impresionado con la gente
allá. Por muchos razones, pero, por lo menos, por que los Españoles

uno de los mejores diversiones en el país. Es muy divertido, y cada
esquina tiene un sala de bingo. Pero no he ganado nada.

Ahora, yo he encontrado un casino en el red que es un casino en línea,
y también es muy divertido.
Y, está en Español.

También hay un sala de bingo, pero no sé si esta en Español. Pero no
creo que necesitaba hablar Ingles para entenderlo. Yo aprendí mis
números en un sala de bingo.

Other Entries and Charlestown Races... again.
I am going back to Charlestown Races on Friday. At least that is the plan. I scored a car. A Mercedes SLK 320, so the drive there from D.C. should be no problem. I just have to keep from speeding. I was assured that the car wouldn't go over 145. Which is the top speed limit on the Audobahn.
So off to Charles Town, West Virginia. Not exactly Germany, but West Viginia is nice..
After that last pick that I had I should be able to bankroll the horses a bit more, too. The other guy who was going to write on the site has seemingly disappeared. I know he is going to Vegas in a couple days. He told me about his travel deal there, and he is staying in the Mirage for the weekend. Which should be very cool. I just have to get him to post about his craps trip to Atlantic City before he writes about Vegas. Assuming I can get him to write anything.
I am relegated to the ponies. But that is ok, maybe I’ll drive the Mercedes to Atlantic City this weekend.
I’m going to make a pick for the horse tomorrow.
